Raingutter Regatta
The Raingutter Regatta is a racing event for Cub Scouts that is the sailboat equivalent of the Pinewood Derby®. This is a great introduction to scout competition for our new scouts as well as a nice warm-up event for the Pinewood Derby.

You can purchase your kit (shown below) from the Great Trail Council Store, Camper City or online for about $4.

Once you have your kit, you can use any of the included components (including instruction sheet and box) in any way that you would like for your design. If you Google "Raingutter Regatta" you will find many ideas for improving on the standard sailboat design that you see on the box – be creative, try something different!

The boats are raced in a a pair of standard rain gutters that are ten feet long, placed on a table or saw horses, and filled to the top with water. The boats are propelled by blowing on the sail, either directly or through a drinking straw; the boat cannot be touched with hands or the straw. The first boat to reach the end of the gutter is the winner. The overall winner is determined by an elimination system.

Pinewood Derby
Every year more than a million Cub Scouts and adult partners team up to participate in a Pinewood Derby®, a tradition that goes back generations. As a coach and a Cub Scout design, carve, paint, weigh, refine, and race the car, a bond of partnership is created. This is at the heart of the event’s success. In addition, Cub Scouts build confidence and take pride in their own growing skills and hard work. So enjoy the ride!

While the exhilaration of the actual race lasts only moments, the Pinewood Derby® experience lasts a lifetime. The benefits, for Cub Scout and adult, are discovered through the derby process itself: strengthening bonds, sharing responsibility, developing teamwork, learning new skills, exercising creativity, building sportsmanship, and making new friends.

You can purchase your kit (shown below) from the Great Trail Council Store, Camper City or online for about $4.

Each kit includes the basic necesities for putting together your car. It also includes official rules.

As was true with the Raingutter Regatta, if you Google "Pinewood Derby" you will be overwhelmed with building tips, design ideas and expert advice on how you can give your car a legal advantage in the races.

Stay tuned for more information from your Den Leaders regarding build workshops and weigh-in times prior to the race.
